Lisa Maki is the founder of a faith-based non-profit organization, Step Out Ministries International, whose outreach program includes feeding poor children in the Philippines, and future plans for education assistance.
I was born and raised in the Philippines. My father is a self-made man who came from a very poor family. At
a young age, he made up his mind to not be a prisoner of his environment. He studied hard and graduated with honors, from Elementary to High School, granting him a full scholarship in College. He graduated Summa Cum Laude, the first one ever in his school, giving him the privilege to pursue his education at the Harvard University and his Master's Degree at the University of Hawaii. Despite his success, my father remained humble and kept us, his children, in touch with his roots. This instilled in me a strong passion to help the poor, from my childhood until today. And honestly, no one has really seen poverty until one sees poverty in third-world countries like the Philippines.
